What is RSS anyway?
RSS or Really Simple Syndication is a method of keeping upto date with various websites without having to visit them.
How do I use RSS?
Using a website
Several of the portal style websites (e.g. google and yahoo) now allow you to customise the page that you see. One of the things you can add to them are RSS feeds, once you've set them to be your homepage you can keep upto date with AUSSAGS by simply opening your browser. There are two ways to add the AUSSAGS feeds to these sites either you can click on the link above or you can manually add the address of the feed - if you right click the RSS logo and select 'copy link location' you will then be able to paste this address into the website when it asks for it.
Using a standalone program
The first thing you need is something called a news reader. There are many different versions, some of which are accessed using a browser, and some of which are downloadable applications. All allow you to display and subscribe to the RSS feeds you want.
Once you have chosen a news reader, all you have to do is to decide what content you want. For example, if you would like the latest AUSSAGS News stories, simply visit the visit the news page or RSS page and use the orange RSS button.
If you click on the button you can subscribe to the feed in various ways, including by dragging the URL of the RSS feed into your news reader or by cutting and pasting the same URL into a new feed in your news reader, Some browsers, including Firefox, Opera and Safari, have functionality which automatically picks up RSS feeds for you. For more details on these, please check their websites.
